Yet never enough of it,
Bring it back to me.

Steals the beauty of the rose,
All is transient.

Leaves drifting, ephemeral.
Autumn’s golden rays.

An instantaneous change.
Where is the present?

Or just feel its weight

Slower still with a broken
Heart. I wait for you.

2010-10-25 [Chimes]: [9jlriexqk,ktpk]: Unfortunately, your poem isn't actually a Haiku and thus does not fit the theme of this contest. :/

2010-10-26 [Akayume]: mine loosely fits. Eternal and standing? I say it fits...

2010-10-26 [windowframe]: How else can you say 'eternal' other than with three syllables? O_o

2010-10-26 [NorthStorm]: Akayume, I like your Haiku.

2010-10-26 [wicked fae mage]: No clue, Silver... *points to my Haiku*

2010-10-26 [Akayume]: I don't know [windowframe]. DX

And thank you [NorthStorm]. (:

2010-10-26 [Chimes]: [9jlriexqk,ktpk]: You're still using too many syllables for it to count as a haiku. Perhaps, look on http://dictionary.com ? It splits words into syllables.

[July 47]: You need another syllable in the first line to make yours a Haiku. :)

[NorthStorm]: I'm not sure your haiku fits the theme of Time.

2010-10-26 [9jlriexqk,ktpk]: Okay, I'll rework it soon :/

2010-10-26 [Chimes]: Haikus are really challenging, so don't feel too disheartened. :)

2010-10-26 [Akayume]: They are indeed. >.<''

2010-10-26 [9jlriexqk,ktpk]: I'm pretty bad for following formats :)

2010-10-26 [Aradon Templar]: It gets even harder when you consider the traditional practice of natural themes and vivid imagery rather than concrete ideas. I'm a very wordy person, I've been told, and don't like condensing phrases for fear that people will misunderstand. However, that's the elegance of the Haiku. Your goal is to communicate imagery convicingly with just a few choice words. Still working on the third line of mine. Will post when it's finished.

2010-10-27 [windowframe]: I want to steal the apostrophe from the first line of [ScottJo]'s entry, and add it to the second line of [9jlriexqk,ktpk]' entry. <_<

2010-10-27 [9jlriexqk,ktpk]: Argh! Stop picking on me!!

2010-10-27 [windowframe]: I pick on you by trying to help you! I am so cruel like that. O.o

2010-10-27 [Flisky]: Yes, Silvie. You are a cruel, mean person. ^_^

2010-10-27 [NorthStorm]: Perhaps.. but doesn't it? NOW is an instant within time, all too often ignored as we concern ourselves with the past and future. Basically, what I was going for is to stress the urgency of The Present. However, if you like, I can retract My entry. It was fun, either way.

2010-10-27 [July 47]: is that good?

2010-10-27 [ZeoOfFire]: First time Haikuist person here, is that ok?

2010-10-27 [Aradon Templar]: Looks good to me, ZeoOfFire.

2010-10-28 [ZeoOfFire]: woop woop

2010-11-12 [wicked fae mage]: [NorthStorm], you would love metaphysics. Especially the writings of Bergeson. (I believe I spelled his name correctly)--he is very into the present and how to interpret seconds and short instances of time.

2010-11-12 [windowframe]: McTaggart's The Unreality of Time is pretty interesting reading if the metaphysics of time is your thing. (there are also relevant chapters in Aristotle's Metaphysics and Augustine's Confessions)

2010-11-13 [NorthStorm]: Wicked fae mage, that is possibly the most interesting thing anyone has said to Me since I have been here. Much obliged.

2010-11-13 [NorthStorm]: Danka, SilverFire.

2010-11-13 [wicked fae mage]: *bows* I am a philosophy and creative writing dual major. I love metaphysics and logic...although I have yet to choose my concentration. McTaggart was part of our readings for metaphysics too, as was Williams, Locke and Chisolm thus far. Still a month of the semester left, though.

2010-11-13 [windowframe]: You do love telling people that, don't you? :P *teases*

2010-11-14 [NorthStorm]: *Laughz* Charming. *Tipz hat* What a congragy of high class. How intoxicating, to be surrounded by those of such exquisite taste.

2010-11-15 [wicked fae mage]: *nods* I love finding others to talk about philosophy so I put the interest out in the open :P

Yes, but all of our taste goes out the window when we play Magic the Gathering. We get very childish and vindictive and we only think of vengeance....

2010-11-15 [Aradon Templar]: Clearly you don't play U/W control :P

2010-11-15 [NorthStorm]: *Laughz* Philosophy I can do. Role playing card games aren't really My style. Not that I have anything against such games or those who play them.

2010-11-15 [Chimes]: Getting a bit off topic, guys :P

2010-11-15 [windowframe]: Incidentally, you never got back to NorthStorm about whether his entry fitted the theme.

2010-11-16 [Chimes]: I didn't? *read back in the comments* So I didn't.
I don't think it fits the theme just by having the word 'Now' in it, it doesn't seem to be the focus. :/ Sorry, [NorthStorm]. Feel free to write another entry though!

2010-11-17 [NorthStorm]: It's cool man. I had been up for days (literally)when I wrote that. I had another entry prepared. I think I*ll submit it. Thanks.

2010-11-17 [NorthStorm]: New entry, same spot. Better?

2010-11-17 [Chimes]: Yep. :) It fits.

2010-11-18 [Alexi Ice]: I hate counting syllables...>>

Anyone want to help me! ? (count my syllables, I mean. For some reason I just can't do it.)

2010-11-18 [NorthStorm]: "Yoooou can do eet"!

2010-11-18 [wicked fae mage]: We'll all be of help :)

2010-11-19 [Alexi Ice]: I think I have five, seven....and four...>>

2010-11-19 [wicked fae mage]: Message me with it or link me to it :)

2010-11-19 [windowframe]: Or just post it here, and we can all help. :P

2010-11-19 [wicked fae mage]: Naturally, but I couldn't speak for everybody else's willingness or reluctance. :3

2010-11-19 [windowframe]: Well, posting it here doesn't force other people to respond. X)

2010-11-20 [Alexi Ice]: Thank you both! *Hugs Fae then eye's Silver* Would you kill me if I hugged you?

- Like I said, I think it's five, seven and four. (Needs to find random syllable to the end of line three...>>)

2010-11-20 [wicked fae mage]: No, I like hugs. *hugs*

3
4
4

2010-11-20 [windowframe]: Fae's count is right. All the words you've picked are 1 syllable, which is kind of impressive. :P
You could shift it around a bit,

'When the clock does dare (5)
to mock - tick, tock, tick, tock, (6, so you'd need 1 more)'
Then you'd have a whole 'nother line to play with. :O

2010-11-20 [Alexi Ice]: KK! I can totally do this! Thank you for your time!

2010-11-20 [Alexi Ice]:

Did I get the count right this time...>> *failing all over the place*

2010-11-20 [windowframe]: First line is 5, not 4, (which is good, that's what it's supposed to be), but the last line is 7 syllables - bo.dy, soul.less are both 2 syllables.

2010-11-20 [wicked fae mage]: I don't know how to explain syllables...strange as it is.

2010-11-20 [Flisky]: Uh...the first line is 6...(I have no idea how you all count syllables, but six different one syllable words is 6 syllables...)

The last line is 7 syllables...Maybe take out body and change my to me?

2010-11-20 [windowframe]: Yeah, I just counted five words. <_<

2010-11-21 [Alexi Ice]: Is the first line five or six? (confused)

2010-11-21 [windowframe]: 6. You've got 6 words. No word is less than one syllable.

2010-11-21 [Alexi Ice]: Ah ~ (Thinking about just giving up)

2010-11-21 [wicked fae mage]: Dictionaries break words into syllables, too, if you don't want to wait for use to respond to a comment

2010-11-23 [NorthStorm]: Umm... Nioniel.. cool name; but that's definitely not a haiku.

2010-11-23 [Thunder Cid]: Yeah it looks like it 5,8,4. All you need to do is drop a syllable in the second line and add one in the third.

2010-11-24 [NorthStorm]: Better, kinda

2011-01-12 [Akayume]: Pretty good turn-out for this contest! (:
